Christmas Lights Event
Iteration 1
For the first round of testing, I talked went around campus at Dixie State University.
Scenario
You are going to the Christmas Lights drive through at Willard Bay State Park but you need to buy a ticket. Purchase a ticket for the event using this website.
*Use discount code Utah to pay for the ticket.
What we learned:
The dots on the calendar don’t always help the user know that it is a date they can select.
My first tester, Olivia, and my 2nd to last tester accidentally just ordered glasses because they didn’t know that the passes and glasses had their own add to cart button.
The feedback from a Biology professor was that people won’t know the difference between the Christmas lights and the regular pass and they might just buy the regular pass because that is the first thing they see and the Christmas Lights Event is at the bottom of the page.
The 2nd to last tester didn’t think the event at the bottom was something she wanted to click on because above it she saw the title “additional fees” and that scared her. So she ended up buying a regular pass.
People didn’t know if they needed 3-d glasses for the light show. They thought it should be shown as an add on after adding the pass to their cart instead of showing it right underneath the pass.
Iteration 2
The second round of testing was with Professor Eric Pedersen’s University class, tech entrepreneurship.
Scenario
You want to see the Willard Bay Christmas Lights. “Purchase” an entry to see the lights at parkspass.utah.gov
Use discount code user test.
What we learned:
The two add to cart buttons: one for the glasses and the other for the ticket was confusing and they wanted to make the glasses and add-on.
The ticket says parkspassutah instead of parkspass and that’s confusing.
It would be nice if their was just one QR code for the glasses and the pass and not two.
The Passes information underneath the buy button doesn’t really give me much information than I already have with the buy button. The only additional information it gives me is that it is per vehicle up to 8 people.
Final Product
Because we are using an embedded button from Shopify, we were limited on the things we could change in a short amount of time so we had to be creative. To fix the problem of people thinking that the add to cart button was for both of the products, we separated the two products into their own card and we changed the button text to say “add pass to cart” and “add glasses to cart.”
From this project, I learned to leave myself a little more time to test and start the project sooner. I also learned that it is okay that we have constraints and that helps us to find creative solutions.
